Skywatchers were in for a rare treat. I've read from the newspaper this afternoon that the first eclipse of the year occured today and it was an annular eclipse of the sun. According to the website of the Philippine Atmospheric and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the most will cast a shadow on the earth that will move northeast starting in the atlantic ocean and ending just short of mindanao. In Metro Manila, the phenomenon was observed as a partial eclipse and started at 4:55 p. m. While in Davao would be a little fortunate because the partial solar eclipse occured a bit earlier at 4:47 p. m. and will see the moon covering 77% of the sun's disk. While observers in Manila will be able to see only 62% of the sun blocked by the moon.
I was so excited to look forward to it, I even set my mobile on alarm just to see it on time, unfortunately the thick clouds covered the sun so I was not able to see it. I would have taken pictures if it was shown. (- -)Sigh
